Thymalin: dosage in studies
Not a recommendation, not treatment guidance. This page shows only what published human studies used, with sources. This site does not say how much anyone should use of any substance. Fimea warns against using injectable peptides bought online: Fimea warning.
Thymalin has no marketing authorisation in any EU or EEA country, so there is no approved dosing [3]regulator.
The only human study whose full text reports the thymalin dose is an open-label randomised COVID-19 trial from St Petersburg in 2020. In it, thymalin was given on top of hospital care [1]A.
In an older surgical study in children, a thymalin solution was applied locally to the wound edges as part of a wider treatment package [2]B.
Doses used in studies
| Study | Participants | Dose | Frequency | Duration | Source and level |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Khavinson et al. 2021 (open-label, randomised) | 42 hospital patients with moderate or severe COVID-19 and low lymphocyte counts; 50 controls received standard care only | 10 mg into a muscle | Once a day | 5 days | [1]A |
Evidence levels: regulator = a regulator's assessment or decision, not research evidence · A = randomised human trial or meta-analysis · B = observational human study or case series · C = animal study · D = cell or laboratory study · E = not peer-reviewed
Notes
The COVID-19 trial dose was given in hospital during a serious infection together with an anticoagulant, antibiotics and, in some patients, antiviral drugs. It says nothing about a dose for a healthy person [1]A.
The children's surgical study gives only the strength of the solution (0.01%), not the amount given or how often, so it is not in the table. Thymalin was one part of a treatment package in it [2]B.
What points the other way or is uncertain
The COVID-19 trial was open-label and single-centre, its results were laboratory values, and no one died in either group. Other treatment differed between groups: 40.5% of the thymalin group and 56% of the controls received lopinavir and ritonavir [1]A.
